Is he driving the track in "reverse"? Meaning, I'm pretty sue he's heading to the Karoussel (just out of frame on the left) and usually cars are coming uphill to the Karoussel, not downhill.
Anyway, this is a fantastic photo!

Can't be, there isn't a turn going that direction and that sharp close enough to Karoussel.

That's the Nordkehre complex, with the northern end of the Betonschleife. I think.
It looks ridiculously underdeveloped for that part of the Ring, but that's the part that fits for the view that it has and the direction the car is travelling.

These are all from later years, but it is the Nordkehre area. I never realized that the area to the left is so quiet, considering the main grandstands are basically directly across from this part of the track.
Here's one from now, which is the current development of the turn. It's still mostly there, but it's now the rejoined portion of the GP circuit and Nordschleife.
